The ASsociation of South-European Economic Theorists (ASSET) is firmly condemning the decision taken by the newly appointed rector of Boğaziçi University to suspend its current president – Prof. Ünal Zenginobuz – from exerting his professoral activities at the University for a period of three months on grounds of an investigation into actions conducted while he held the position of Department Head.
There is absolutely nothing in the Department’s directorship of Ünal Zenginobuz that can justify his suspension from Boğaziçi University. To the contrary, the president of ASSET is an internationally recognized scholar in public economics and microeconomics. He has published in top journals and outlays in these fields and has taught to thousands of students, some of whom are currently contributing to economics at leading Universities around the world. Furthermore, he has served with dedication in senior administrative positions, including the current presidency of ASSET and, of course, as the Head of the Economics Department at Boğaziçi University where he also served as as a University Executive Committee member.
Prof. Nicolas Gravel, Aix-Marseille University, President-Elect of ASSET and Prof. Antonio Nicolò, University of Padova, former president of ASSET
